About This Event:

You will learn a bit about the history of data visualisation and BI. We will show you how to think and evaluate the balance between beautiful pictures and working BI tool and when/where to use each one of them. Close to 70% of BI work is actually in data preparation. If you do not have data prepared (extracted, cleaned and connected) then there can be no data discovery.
This part is also hardest to learn on your own. We will focus lots of our efforts on this, so when you leave us you know why/how to do it.

“Lingua franca” of data is SQL. Together with our lecturers everybody learns basics of SQL right on the first day. After that you are able to join different data sets and clean them. Make them ready for analyses.
Then you will build the whole cohorts report from scratch. And of course, will learn what cohorts are and why we chose them as our example 🙂
Once we have the cohorts build we will start the real fun and iterate on them. Bringing new problems and questions into the process. Answering them. Then making it more difficult, bringing new data sources into the equation and ….and we will see 🙂

Key Takeaways from the workshop:

– Thinking about data flow. Connecting the right dots. Working backwards.
– Practical data extraction from external/internal sources (Databases, APIs, etc.)
– Basics of SQL and it’s use for data prep
Tools : Tableau, GoodData, Keboola Connection, PowerBI, MySQL, SeQuel Pro
Data Sources: MySQL database, Google Drive for spreadsheets, database traffic data like Google Analytics, etc.

Before you leave, you will have done:

– basic BI project from start to visualisation (build the ETL process – extract the data, transform it and load it into GoodData) . SQL piece for transformation will be provided for you, so you just focus on the logic.
– you should have a quite nice overview of main tools available in today’s business world for BI
– basics of SQL and your complete ETL process
– experience the agile iteration process which is the basics of data discovery

About Our Partners

Keboola

At Keboola, we build and support Keboola Connection – the data engine behind any data democratization efforts. We revolutionize business data processing and management tasks so they can focus nearly all their effort where true value is created – analyzing and enriching the data.

We significantly reduce or eliminate…
– Time spent on repetitive maintenance tasks
– Long adoption and learning curves with outdated systems and processes
– Tedious and drawn-out menial responsibilities which detract from efficiency

Building on knowledge already plentifully available in the market such as SQL and R, we are able to achieve unparalleled Time to Value with our implementations. Many of our customers are completely self-serving from the inception of their project.

We partner with professional service companies to build the right solutions for our clients. Our Developer partners build apps that seamlessly integrate their services and algorithms into our structure, making functions like predictive analytics and machine learning instantly available to our customers with no integration work required. We cast technology alliances with platforms that help our customers consume the data and insights in the ways most suitable to their particular use cases.

Let us show you what your company has been missing.

Selection

This event is popular with members and is usually oversubscribed.  As this is a work shop, we want to keep the group small and to make sure that the workshop is relevant to the attendees.  For this reason we will request all RSVPs to fill in a short questionnaire and then we will select the group.

As this event is run regularly, there will always be an opportunity to attend it in the future.

Next workshop

Note:

Please note that it is not our intent nor it is in our capabilities to show you all available tools. We work with the tools available and known to us and thus provide you with a very fast intro into the whole area of BI. Further study and learning is up to you. This is not a full fledge university course in BI and Data Science, but rather a short intro into the BI world that will get you started. We strongly believe that once you will master the tools that we present, it will be very easy for you to find and quickly learn any next tool.
