Searching for the next generation of global health innovators
Join us on Monday 7th March for our interactive Dragon’s Den style event to find the winner of our annual Student Challenges Competition.
The competition is now in its fourth year, and provides a platform for students based in the UK to showcase their global health research idea and to win prize money to develop it further. Runners-up and audience choice prizes will also be awarded.
The event, which is hosted by Imperial’s Institute of Global Health Innovation, will take place from 6:00-8:00pm in lecture theatre LGR of the Business School in South Kensington, followed by a celebratory drinks reception. The venue is marked at number 17 on this map.
The finalists
The finalists and projects are (in no particular order):
- Harriet Gliddon – Putting TB to the test
- James McIlroy – EuroBiotix CIC
- Kapil Sahnan – Novel use of MRI volume measurement and 3-Dimensional (3D) modelling in perianal Crohn’s fistulae
- Uddhav Vaghela – Pulmonis – Dynamic Personalised Asthma Action Plan (PAAP) Smartphone Application
- Prem Chouhan, Hana Janebdar, Shaolin Liang, Paolo Cadinu and Denis Huen – InstaType blood group testing device
- Antonios Chronopoulos and Tyler Lieberthal – ExoSonic®, a device to detect pancreatic cancer
The ‘Dragons’
Confirmed ‘Dragons’s are as follows:

Fancy yourself as a Dragon? During the event, you will be given the opportunity to participate and judge the event with our audience choice award. The Dragons will decide who scoops the £5000 winning prize and £2500 runner up prize and you, the audience, will decide who wins the third prize of £1000.
And if that’s not exciting enough, we are asking you to vote for your favourite finalist’s entry video. £500 is up for grabs for the winner of this award, which will be announced at the Dragon’s Den event with the rest of the prizes.
