Alan Schaaf is founder and CEO of Imgur, the best place to explore, share, and discuss the Internet’s images. Launched in 2009 when Schaaf was still an undergraduate at Ohio University, the site is now home to a community of 150 million users and receives over 60 billion views of its images around the Internet each month. Imgur currently ranks among the top 50 sites in the world, and was called “the best example yet of how a new generation of Internet users prefers to express itself” by Bloomberg Businessweek.
Under Schaaf’s leadership, the company was proudly bootstrapped for five years, scaling to millions of users before finally receiving $40 million in investment from Andreessen Horowitz in 2014. He brings over a decade of experience to Imgur as a professional coder with a focus on crafting beautiful user experiences. Schaaf has previously been a speaker at TEDxWellington, AWS re:Invent, and is a strong advocate in the battle for a free and open Internet.
